Whitechapel is part of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The district is quite close to the London Docklands and because of it, it is a home for the working class and immigrants. Bangladeshis currently represent a major part of those immigrants and have a big influence on the local culture. The two hot-spots of the district are the Whitechapel High Street and Whitechapel Road which are part of the A11 road. Together with the Whitechapel Market they are a subject of a major investment for improving the market area, historic buildings and the public spaces along the road. From a cultural point of view, the local symbol is the renowned Whitechapel Art Gallery with a proud history of major exhibitions and a worldwide visibility. The Whitechapel district is served by various ways of transportation, some of which are still in construction. The area is connected to the National Road Network and there’s even a Cycle Superhighway which runs on the A11 road.
